November Genealogy To-Do List

Research
* Write to Christ Church to see if there are records there of Lucy and Thomas O’Shaughnessy’s marriage.
* Write to Ditchling church about possible archives and records for Denman family.

Organization
* Still trying to get that last inbox cleared – somehow there is always something more urgent (read: interesting) to do. Determined to do this over the holiday season.
* Back up the blog! Plug-ins found to automate this task don’t meet my needs.

Education
* Read book from the library about solving problems in family search.
* Watch one online video or webinar about genealogy. [I watched Marian Pierre-Louis's webinar about intermediate solutions for brick walls. Excellent and I took away several suggestions along with the book noted above. I also watched the webinar at RootsMagic about creating a source for the 1940 census. Now I just need to do it.]
* Find a new webinar site that archives and/or puts up free webinars [No luck so far, but I haven't really looked very hard.]

September Genealogy To-Do List

Research
* Source all O’Shaughnessy findings so I can look at what I know and be ready to share it with a new contact.
* Continue to search for and correspond with Scheier living relatives – send a message to the general JewishGen listserv about my questions.
* Develop research plan forms as presented by Marian Pierre-Louis in her webinar (this could be considered Organization but should further my goal of researching more effectively and efficiently) [I got nothing done on this task so am leaving it on for September. Maybe the Fall will be more conducive to this work.]

Organization
* Empty inbox on desk: sort, source, enter in appropriate database and put away. [I *finally* got the pile of papers on the desk finished. One inbox to go and my desk is pretty much cleared for the Fall!]

Education
* Continue learning how to use Clooz3; I watched the intro videos, and am following the listserv with interest. Working on putting what I have learned to use.
* Watch one online video or webinar about genealogy. [I got really carried away in August and did not only the 2 I had pre-registered for - one on using wikis and the other on using the Library of Congress online site and resources but a series of three on getting started with house history that Marian Pierre-Louis offered. And then I listened to Judy G. Russell, the Legal Genealogist, present about circumstantial evidence, over at my old stand-by Legacy Family Tree webinars. I learned so much in August!]

August Genealogy To-Do List

Research
* Enter/source all documents received from FHL
* Continue to search for and correspond with Scheier living relatives
* Develop research plan forms as presented by Marian Pierre-Louis in her webinar (this could be considered Organization but should further my goal of researching more effectively and efficiently)

Organization
* I spent a fair amount of time in July adding metadata to my digital pictures from the Ohio trip in June. Now I need to search for software that would let me add the basic metadata in a batch instead of one at a time. I actually have other groups of pictures from other genealogy trips that I haven’t done this for, partly because it takes so long to do.
* There is still a pile of papers on my desk that needs to be taken care of: sorted, sourced, entered in the appropriate database, and put away.

Education
* Start learning how to use Clooz3; watch the intro videos.
* Watch one online video or webinar about genealogy. I have registered for 2: one on using wikis and the other on using the Library of Congress online site and resources. [In July I watched/listened to another Legacy Family Tree webinar about finding your English ancestors. The Salt family, said to have come from England are a major brick wall for me, and this webinar was helpful in teaching me some new ways to go about trying to make that leap back from the US to England.]

July Genealogy To-Do List

Research
* Enter the Scheier sources received from the FHL in the database and look at that family line for next steps.
* Enter the Pintel, Schenk, Thompson sources received from FHL, also information from MC about Pintel 2nd marriage and children.
* Use notes from Ohio trip to develop research plan for next steps – Boothby and Salt lines.

Organization
* The very next step is to empty the last inbox on my desk (the physical one not on my computer) and sort out all the pieces there. Some I have already put into sheet protectors or photo protectors, but they still need to be used to source or add to my family database and then to be put in a binder or hanging file.
* When that is done, empty the canvas bag hanging on the closet door and do the same with everything in it. The materials are all Denman family-related already, I know.
* Pictures from the Ohio trip are downloaded to computer, but the metadata needs to be created and the files named. Files put in the family directory they belong in.

Education
* Watch one online video or webinar about genealogy. [In June I watched/listened to another Legacy Family Tree webinar done by Thomas MacEntee about finding your New York ancestors. This webinar was done live in April and I just caught it at the end of the free period. I am registered to watch one in July about finding your English ancestors and looking forward to help with this - it is one of my oldest brick walls.]

June Genealogy To-Do

Research
* I sent for 5 remaining birth/death records still in the Scheier 2011 folder, from LDS, in May. I am waiting patiently (well, trying to be patient) for their arrival. One death record is potentially my Joseph Scheier, husband of Zissel and the father of the siblings I have written about.
* Plan research trip to southwestern Ohio with my sister. I think I will focus on cemeteries and maybe a couple of the towns my family lived in with the aim of providing some current pictures and local history for context.
* Continue to search through the 1940 census for family. I have found a number of families, but continue to look for my parents (who were college students but might have been on co-op when the census was taken.)

Organization
* In May I actually made it through the rest of the folders in my Research 2011 folder on my husband’s side and sourced information in my database and moved files to where they will reside more permanently. I also scanned all of the photos that were piled on my desk. Celebrate!! Now they only need to be put in protective sheets and it will be done.
* What I didn’t get done was the rest of the inbox, or the Snow and Minor information from the Connecticut State Library. So those are still on the list. If I keep putting them on, sooner or later I will get to them.
* Back up the blog. Putting this on my monthly to-do list reminds me, when I look at the post to see that it got published and this helps me remember to actually do the back up. Otherwise my memory doesn’t always work.

Education
* Learn more about finding living relatives and how to persuasively contact them.
* Watch one online video or webinar about genealogy. [In May I listened to an interview Lisa Louis Cooke did with Bruce Buzbee, head of RootsMagic and senior Magician and was inspired to upgrade my software. I also watched one of the free RootsMagic webinars specific to the latest version, about using the new research log feature. Ok, not strictly about genealogy but very useful and it will stand me in good stead as I research.] Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with RootsMagic except that I use the program and I really like it.
