{"id":6285,"date":"2016-06-15T10:40:42","date_gmt":"2016-06-15T14:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/?p=6285"},"modified":"2016-06-15T10:40:42","modified_gmt":"2016-06-15T14:40:42","slug":"calling-all-coffins-or-how-my-coffin-lines-are-related","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/calling-all-coffins-or-how-my-coffin-lines-are-related\/","title":{"rendered":"Calling All Coffins, or, How My Coffin Lines Are Related"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently connected with a possible relative through DNA testing.\u00a0 Our mitochondrial DNA looks vaguely like there is a connection, so we have been emailing about possible shared ancestors.\u00a0 While exchanging surnames, the Coffin line looked promising (although not my maternal line, so not the mitochondrial connection) and we went on to exchange spreadsheets of our Coffin lineages.\u00a0 I have to admit here that I copied her spreadsheet as a template (thank you, cousin Diana!).<\/p>\n<p>I have always known (well, for a long time) that I had ancestors who had married, each of whom came from a line of Coffins.\u00a0 I also have ancestors who came from the same line in the Justice family, and they married into the Coffin family, just to make it more complicated.\u00a0 I had never taken the time or effort to try to chart these complex relationships in any way.\u00a0 When I thought about writing a post about this, I thought I could just show the spreadsheet I filled in and that would be it.\u00a0 However, since I can\u2019t include\/insert the whole spreadsheet which is more than one page wide, I was stuck trying to think of another way to illustrate the relationships succinctly.\u00a0 Then it occurred to me (this is a \u201cDuh!\u201d moment) that I can capture a screenshot of each set and include them sequentially.\u00a0 So here they are.<\/p>\n<p>Note: there are dates here that I haven\u2019t fully verified myself.\u00a0 Most of them come from a compiled genealogy on the Coffin family by Louis Coffin<sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-6285-1' id='fnref-6285-1' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(6285)'>1<\/a><\/sup> Some individuals don\u2019t have dates or full ones, anyway, although I have guessed broadly (e.g., 17xx or 18xx) in some cases.\u00a0 On the first set I have noted relationships between spouses, and then on the second any additional ones.\u00a0 I tend to think of my Coffin line as running back to James, since that is the line that carried the Coffin surname the closest to me, however these are presented by age of the child of Tristram and Dionis, oldest to youngest.\u00a0 Also: the relationship between my great-grandmother Katie Coffin and her husband John Clifford Salt is the result of their sharing a Justice great grandfather, Jesse Justice Sr., not a Coffin ancestor.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6288 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-300x220.jpg\" alt=\"Coffin, Peter - line of descent\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-150x110.jpg 150w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-768x562.jpg 768w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-1024x749.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-100x73.jpg 100w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-200x146.jpg 200w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-450x329.jpg 450w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-600x439.jpg 600w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1-900x659.jpg 900w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-Peter-line-of-descent-1.jpg 1107w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-James-line-of-descent.jpg\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Coffin-James-line-of-descent.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"background-image: none;
