Coffin\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Mary-Alice-Dalton-young-girl-nd-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/genealogygals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Mary-Alice-Dalton-young-girl-nd.jpg 751w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-83\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mary Alice Dalton, tintype<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>From the time I was very young, my mother would tell me that I looked like Cousin Alice when I pouted and talk about how Daisy (her nickname) would pout to get her own way.\u00a0 And then she would stick out her own lower lip to show me how I looked.\u00a0 There was an old picture, actually a tintype, of Cousin Alice as a little girl with her dog.\u00a0 I was intrigued by the clothing and hair.\u00a0 And I wanted to know more about her.\u00a0 Where was she now?\u00a0 Had I ever met her?\u00a0 Would she ever come visit us?\u00a0 Who were her parents?\u00a0 And on and on.\u00a0 My mother knew most of these answers and was happy to tell me.
